Educators understand and apply knowledge of student growth and development:

During my practicum at Cilaire Elementary School, my teacher sponsor provided me with several publications to read to enhance my understanding of assessment. We had numerous conversations of assessment and spoke about individual achievements in the classroom. We also had assessment specials come into the classroom where I was able to observe these observations and I also had to opportunity to participate in parent/teacher conferences.
I am excited to participate in new methods of assessment and work with future colleagues to make assessment benefit students, parents and teachers.
A part of the Post Baccalaureate Education program at Vancouver Island University, I was enrolled in a Child and Adolescent Development class instructed by Dr. Gail Krivel-Zacks. During this class we learned different child development theories and research, we discussed stages of development and discussed how teacher should address students of different stages of development.
Concluding the end of my practicum at Cilaire Elementary School, I continued my studies on child development by reading publication such as this textbook written by Janet Gonealez-Mena. I feel that it is important to remain knowledgeable about child develop and learn of new teaching methods that are based on child development. Staying current demonstrates my drive to become a professional in the teaching profession.
