Currently I am enrolled in the Special Education Speciality Program at Vancouver Island University.
It is my goal to become a highly knowledgeable teacher and have the skills to create an inclusive classroom.
Learning French is a personal passion of mine. Not only do I feel it is important for teaching but it is a personal goal because I have family in France and I love to travel. To improve my French, I have participated in three French immersion programs, studied core French at VIU, spent several years in a conversational French class, write a French journal, use Duolingo and attend Francophone Fun with my one year old. I plan to continue to enrol in summer French programs as an ongoing professional development plan.
Another passion of mine is History. I am apart of BC Social Studies Teacher Association and believe it is so important to introduce new teaching resources to students in order to talk about the past and current political and social environment.
Unique Teaching Experiences
Summer 2017 Bike Camp, City of Nanaimo
This summer I had the opportunity to create and teach a bike program for 8-10 year old children in Nanaimo. I combined bike maintenance and road safety into a fun 4 day camp and was really pleased with the result. Students completed obstacle courses and games in the morning and went for a ride in the afternoon. On the last day, the RCMP bike unit attended our ride and all students received certificates for completing the course. It was amazing to see how the students progressed in such a short period of time. This was the first year that the program was implemented and I hope that it becomes a popular camp in the future. I would really love to have to opportunity to teach it again and be able to go into communities that are less fortunate and provide bikes to children.
